Greetings, I have just joined this Tribe and I hope all of you are doing fine and well. I am brand stinking new to beading. I have but one project in mind. I need some hematite beads, maybe about 12mm and I need large silver or chrome skulls. I want to make a Rosary with these items. Where can i get the su[pplies and have you ever made anything as weird as this?

selling jewelry

Does anyone casually sell jewelry that they make and realize they have no one to give it to? I was just curious where or how you would do it. I don't really plan to make money off of it. Jewelry making is more of a hobby for me, but it would be good to get rid of some of the spare stuff I have sitting in a box from Christmas gift leftovers :) I had left over beads from a project and thought maybe I'd sell it for the cost of materials plus a little...but didn't really think it was worth ebay.

Just curious!
Thanks.

JUst wondered if I was the only one in the group obsessed by variations and adaptations of spiral cords. They're my jewelry staple, mostly finding their way into long, asymetrical lariats, with a lot of breaks into strung beads, but I also work them solid, and am learning (trying to, anyhow,) different kinds of spirals, too.

Help with string please!

Hi! I'm rather new to beading - I've been amusing myself for a while with glow-in-the-dark mini pony beads and neon rexlace... but now I want to make pretty stuff for people who aren't ravers. I have a lot of really nice beads, but I've discovered that there is some problem with every type of string I try to use. If it's thin enough to make multiple passes, it's weak and flimsy - if it's nice and strong, it's too thick. I can't afford the fancy 'beading specific' strings offered for sale online, and besides I want to bead *now*, not wait two weeks for delivery!

I have some native american beadwork that my parents bought somewhere in the southwest about 30 years ago - the string used in these necklaces is awesome - thin and very, very strong. It seems to be some kind of plant product. Does anyone know what this might be, or where I could find some? Or am I stuck with frustratingly substandard materials until I'm willing/able to fork out $ for the Good Stuff?

Buying silver in Thailand?

I am going to Thailand (several areas from the North to the Islands & BKK) and would love to know if you have ever bought silver beads there. If so, specifically where? Are they easy to find? Do I need to worry about anything like documentation - like applying for a business-related Visa (as a tourist I will go for under 30 days so I do not need a visa otherwise) ? I would certainly buy more than the average shopper, but not like a major importer...Don't know if customs will be an issue...Any advice would be great. If I do bring stuff back, can I write off my trip? And to do that, what documentation would I need to do so legitimately, if I were to get audited? Thanks!

A Hi All intro : )

Hi All : )
I'm really just getting started in beading. I make baby bracelets from cat's eye beads to sell at my sis's store. I started mostly just to see if I could actually turn a profit and found that I find working with beads and making things so very relaxing that I think I will eventually try to do it full time. Still working out styles and bead types that will allow me to make a profit and have thought of several ways to make money doing it. We have a strong football spirit here so school and team bracelets will turn a profit. Also seasonal bracelets you get the point I'm sure. I took jewelry making in way back when in highschool and always wanted to try my hand at the artistic trades so I now stepping out in a small way to realize those desires. Hope to learn some interesting things and fun projects in here.
Sincerely
Saltheart

Dragonfly workshop

I'm currently touring California teaching a workshop that shows individuals how to bead dragonflies. While doing so participants answer questions and read quotes that help them gain insight and a clear vision to find direction. For more info visit: http://www.solomax.com/dflys.html

I'm in Sacramento at Horse Cow Arts, a Burner communal creative living space, after a workshop here with 8 ladies that was very successful. I'll be in San Francisco until Thanksgiving, then LA for a couple weeks, then up to Southern Utah, and down through AZ, so if you'd like to host a workshop for yourself and friends, please give a call: 818-331-9707 or email max@solomax.com

I have an amazing place to do workshops in Malibu if you live in the area... on beautiful land owned by the family of Frank Lloyd Wright, 2000ft looking over the ocean, so if you know teachers and home-schoolers who would be interested... or any group, please let them or me know.

The workshop is $20 per person. Or you can do it online too, for just $10... see: http://www.solomax.com/step-by-step.html

Have fun!

Hey,
Is anyone here familiar with the Bead Art site on Delphi forums? I have been on this site for several years. Its an online group and the inspiration is great. Go check it out. Look at the art they post, the beaded dolls are wonderful. You will also find links on peoples posts that lead to their websites where you will find amazing pieces.
Here is the link:
http://forums.delphiforums.com/BeadArt/start

Also check this link for Rebekah Hodous. The beaded violin is amazing. Gotta see it.

Hey All,
I am a bead work artist. In addition to being a social worker during the week, I have been doing bead work for 20 years. I mostly use peyote stitch, brick, spiral and free form which is my favorite.
I just joined the Tribe network last night and am looking for like minded people to chat with.
I live in Jerome Arizona, a great little hippie town art community. We have more art galleries than anything and have over a million visitors a year, that's how Jerome now supports itself since the mining stopped in the 40's.
Anyway, glad to be here.
This item has been taken back into my possession after having tried selling it at a local boutique (and obviously failing). Im really at a loss of any other options of how to sell these things.

Things tried:
Local antique, boutique and craft stores
Bead store nearby
Ebay

Im looking for other options. Surely there must be a way to sell my beaded lampshades.

Beadwork as Art?

Is anybody out there as frustrated as I am with the artistic level of beadwork these days? Maybe it's just because I'm in Ohio now, instead of Southern CA, but the bead mags, classes, and other stuff I've seen is not very inspiring. Of course, maybe it's just me and my own inability to translate what I see in my head to a 3 dimensional beaded object.....

So I've been working on my list for the flood insurance adjuster (Lost everything in Katrina). Got to my beads and really started working out what I had. In beads alone (mostly seed beads at that) I had over $5000 invested.
Seriously.
No padding.
Scary, no?
Needless to say, the nice folks at General Bead and Fire Mountain are going to be getting scary big orders from me once my insurance check comes in! That is assuming I can find space for all of that int he crappy little apartement we're moving into.

Help!

I have just moved to San Bernardino. I know that I can find a Michael's here but there is not a good selection of beads for most of my projects. I am seeking a place rather like General Bead in SF that has such a large selection somewhere down here. I know that most likely there is a place like this in LA but I dont know. Can anyone help?

I am a SF Bay beading woman. I enjoy this as a hobby and dont do it as much as I like these days. Lately I have really been wanting to keep doing beaded lampshades and maybe a bit of jewlery.

I like to go bead shopping but San Jose has a pretty lousy selection. I miss General Bead!

Need 4mm holes

Hi Folks,

I have a special use for beads with holes that are just over 4 mm, anywhere from 4.1 up to as large as 4.9 mm. 4.2 to 4.3 is perfect.

I am mostly interested in solid sterling (or other metal), bone, horn, semi-precious stone beads of all kinds, cloisonne, perhaps some glass if it is really tough, Bali beads if no sharp edges. Very small rings, especially inlaid ones, work great.

Any ideas? Sources?

Thanks,
Grandma
